This year’s summer doesn’t bring only beautiful weather and warm days to Europe, but also the first foreign branch of CAPcargo. We are very pleased that after an intensive preparation phase, a suitable site has been found in Skopje.
With the office in Skopje CAPcargo receives an own development site outside Switzerland.
Three questions to this to Mike Laib, the managing director of CAPcargo:
Why this step?
“CAPcargo has started in 2012 with near- and offshore software development and cooperated for this purpose with local partners. We have collected quite a few experiences during this time. We have seen that these “code-factories” often have a project focus and hence a related corporate culture. Such organizations have a reasoning in days or weeks. This related short-term thinking does not fit to our role as product editor. We are reliant on our developers that they understand our product in a detailed manner. Only in such a mode we can ensure a high quality product.”
Is Switzerland not standing for high quality?
“Definitely. Out of this reason, product design, architecture as well as quality assurance remain in Switzerland. But we must recognize that we have in Switzerland, but also in entire Western Europe, a huge shortage of qualified and well educated software developers. CAPcargo intends to further grow and has to overcome these limitations. Second driver is the cost situation. As a heavily export-oriented company, we feel the continued strengthening of the Swiss Francs. The decision of the Swiss National Bank from January 2015, to set aside the minimum euro exchange rate, has reinforced us that the measurements we have introduced earlier, are appropriate.”
And why did you select Skopje?
“The Republic of Macedonia has a high level of education, especially in the technical fields. The IT industry has become important branch for the country. This also motivates young people to take this direction. Skopje is also very well connected with Zurich. No fewer than three airlines connect the two cities with regular flights. Skopje is an ideal location for us.”
